"The wonderful liner notes on this CD talk about "Very Dionne" being a swan song, her last on Scepter Records. It also talks about there being only 3 new Bachrach/David songs on it. Warwick is quoted as saying one of them, "Check Out Time" did not fit her personality.
Yet despite all that, the hodge-podge is incredibly listenable. You get her take on standards as Yesterday, Here's That Rainy Day and We've Only Just Begun. The last 10 cuts were taken from a live performance, some of her greatest hits.
I have a couple of personal favorites on this CD, Walk The Way You Talk and Paper Mache.
The CD is full of interesting things, typical of the unique style of Bacharach of those days. Listen to the sound of the triangle on the chorus of Paper Mache, the trumpet/flugelhorn on Check Out Time. This is stuff that is NEVER seen in pop music today.
What a graceful voice and what incredible talent of the lady. This CD does her justice."

"Only Ms. Dionne Warwick could have done this album, and she did it so majestically. Her tour de force on "Check out Time" is worth the price itself, but there is much more. Why was "Who Gets the Guy" not a HIT?! That tune will not leave your brain! While it's great to hear Ms. Warwick and B. J. Thomas duet on two songs, a whole album would have been the real treat. She works with arrangers Marty Paich and Larry Wilcox, in addition to Burt Bacharach. The added tracks are from a live concert in New Jersey. Another classic Warwick, Bacharach & David collaboration."
Almost thought Dionne was beside me singing!

The cd Very Dionne is one cd all Dionne lovers MUST possess. For those who honestly love the Dionne Warwick and all her songs, this is the one. You would feel the young Dionne sing without doubt that music is indeed in her blood.
The cd neatly sent by Amazon made me sink deeper into who Dionne Warwick really is and what quality of voice she actually has. Warwick lovers .... grab your copies too. Thanks for the fast shipment, Amazon!

"This Rhino reissue of Dionne's last Scepter release is full of wonderful additions, as if the original wasnt reason enough to buy this. You get around a dozen live cuts from a Dionne concert around the time the album was made; several duets with B.J. Thomas never released; as well as other gems never before heard. Dionne's last Scepter single, Who Gets the Guy? is also included. The original is full of wonderful cuts: Check Out Time, and unusual Bacharach-David gem; covers of Goin Out of My Head, Yesterday and many others. Great liner notes as well. A must have for any Dionne fan!"

"What an absolute treat! Dionne's final 1971 Scepter project has been remastered and reissued in beautiful packaging, with bonus tracks galore AND a slew of rare and exceptional photographs. If you are a Dionne fan -- regular or hardcore -- you owe it to yourself to get this jewel of an album. I understand that this is a limited production run, so when they're gone: that's it. Snap up a brand new copy for yourself before the asking price for a used one becomes two or three times retail value (as is so often the case with out of print Dionne albums)."
