"This album... really scared me. But I've gotten used to it, and being a diehard Diru fan, I can't help but love it. The album definitely has a very "western" flair to it; waaaay more than on Vulgar or Withering to death. Six Ugly is like... it's a random album. Where did it come from? Why did they make it? Has Kaoru had too many cashews? All good questions that don't have an answer. Mr. NEWSMAN is catchy and very... dare i say... Linkin-Park-esque *cringe* There's a bit of rapping on this album too. And they re-did Byo Shin & Children. The New ByoShin is better than the old; though it gives me more of a headache. Children was better on Macabre, I think. This ver is too much like rap. But still, I like listening to it. Kyo's voice is basically enough to make buy anything... It's just so damn sexy to listen to. ANYWAY, if you're a Diru fan who can handle their "western" sound, buy this. If you hate Vulgar & Wtd, you'll probably hate this even more. And if you're a new fan... don't go for this quite yet. Diru is a tough band to get into right a away; I would reccomend trying Gauze if you like more glassy sounding indies rock and Withering to Death if you prefer heavy metal."
Newbies to Dir en Grey be warned

"I love Dir en Grey and adore this album, but I will tell you I had mininul exposure to their music when I heard this album and I was nearly scarred away from the band. After listening to it over and over (as well as hearing other singles), this album grew on me and I now love it.
Those that are new to Dir en Grey SHOULD NOT listen to this album first. It is extremely dark, hardcore and can be a it disturbing. Though some may be able to handle it, it's best to listen to the Macrabe or Vulgar albums to get a better taste of their style first before sixUGLY.
I still highly reccomend this album- especially if you're really upset and need mood music. This album's perfect. ^_^"
Six Ugly American-sounding tracks?

"This mini-album made so many Dir en grey fans rethink their dedication to the band. Many complained it was too American-sounding and were glad when they "fixed" their sound in VULGAR (or were horrified when they "made it worse" in VULGAR).
As much as I absolutely love VULGAR, six Ugly simply isn't the horrible piece of junk many deem it to be. It has a great opening with Mr.NEWSMAN, and until I watched their 2003 final tour 5Ugly KINGDOM, I didn't pay much attention to children or Byo" "Shin (track 6).
A side note on Byo" "Shin, this is a second version of the song, as they released an earlier version of this song years ago in their very first mini-album, Missa. I prefer this six Ugly version, but the early version explains why the audience at Diru concerts already knows how to head-bang to the music right away.
My friend who introduced me to Dir en grey told me as we watched a DVD of their 2004 tour THE CODE OF VULGAR[ism], that she never understood why people even liked Byo" "Shin until she saw it in this tour. In my opinion, their performance of Byo" "Shin is always one to look forward to in concerts. Their 5Ugly KINGDOM tour really got me hooked on this song, and their performance of it in THE CODE OF VULGAR[ism] was absolutely perfect."

"I really love this CD. I mean, I really love it. Of course, this won't be very helpful since I like everything Dir en grey does. I know some people don't like it, but it appeals to me very much- even though Gauze, with a completely different sound, appealed to me equally. So, if you want a change of pace and something to bounce around to, get sixUgly. Ah, hell, get it anyway...PS- The "Japanese track" is the sixUgly version of byo' 'shin which appereared on one of Dir en grey's earlier albums, I say "sixUgly version" because it has a completely different sound and lyrics."
