Synopsis
Album Description"Bill Laswell and Jah Wobble first recorded under the name Divination in the early `90s, issuing Ambient Dub Volumes 1 and 2 in `93 and `94. These were extended forays into the spaciest, most psychedelic regions of ambient music, marked by the hypnotic drone of the musicians' twin basses, gentle dub effects, and subtle ethnic music embellishments. There's a lot more here, but it's Laswell and Wobble's dual subterranean basses which form the spine for their exotic, entrancing music." - EPITONIC Bill Laswell & Jah Wobble alter our present state by reinventing a past that's derived from the future. By combining elements of drum `n' bass, mutant hip-hop, dub, harmolodic fusion, new jazz, world and out-of-this-world music, the duo expands the potential of our musical experience. Ambient Dub Volume 1, the first in a series of often radically different Divination projects, shows an impressive scope. Brilliant guitarists Buckethead and Nicky Skopelitis add arachnid-like webs of texture to Robert Musso's dusky synths and Ben Bova's ethereal electronics. Veers from weightlessly abstract ambience to quasi-dub rhythmic fluctuations and all-out ethno-techno-funk - an irresistible experiment in extreme ambient dub!

CD Reviews
Mysterious journey 05/09/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This CD (and its companion vol 2, released together as "Light in Extension")is neither ambient nor dub in my books, but it has strong elements of it. It really does hold up in its own right. Take the opener "Divination I" for example; it begins with faint and forlorn, almost hesitant, tunes and then embarks on a slow heavy groove to which on occasion someone narrates "time is that which ends". Not exactly stuff that would fly at a happy party, but it probably was not intended for this kind of event anyway. It's sombre throughout, to say the least, but it emanates energy.
Something that is more often than not lacking in other music that is (nearly) falling into the same genre. Enjoy the trip."
