"while most of this album is on the compilation "The Complete RCA Victor Sessions", i think this album is some of its best material. i think of this album as a one disc summary of those two discs.the album itself is powerful, fast, and hip. i always dig the first 11 tracks a lot, but sometimes getting to Johnny Hartman's renditions That Old Black Magic and You Go To my Head, leave something to be desired for me. i mean, he's a great singer, but it doesn't seem to fit the hard driving bop of the rest of this album.ironically, the title track is a tasty bop ballad. i dig that as well.the last three tracks are a lot of fun, with some great scat on 15 and 17. check out Hey Pete ...i would recommend this album to anyone interested in getting into bop or jazz. PARENTS, play this for your kids. i'm sure the little ones could dig this as well."
