Rough, but great music

"Judging from the set list, this CD contains a selection of large-band music Dizzy recorded in 1945-46, almost at the beginning of his recording career -- most of the tunes from his "Groovin' High" album and the remainder from his "In the Beginning" album. It's not a bad investment if you'd like to pick up some of the old 1940s bebop but want to minimize costs. The CD has some great music and it's different from how Gillespie played the songs in the early 1950s when he and his pals became more famous -- more concise and sometimes faster in tempo -- so worth visiting despite the poor sound quality of the source material. But I'd recommend that you at least look at the official releases from Savoy Jazz before making your final decision."
