The band that called punk's bluff

"This is an amazing, stunning release that was WAY ahead of its time (1978). Doll By Doll's music was more challenging and confrontational than the punk/new wave/gothic bands of the period could ever have pretended to be. Jackie Leven's voice and songs are both beautiful and terrifying.
One thing though: I can't believe that the final song on the CD "The Fountain Is Red, The Fountain Is White" was not released on the original LP in 1978. It seems to end the album perfectly. It's also one of the best ballads I've heard in years. It's tragic that this record STILL has never been released in the States.
What's even more amazing is that the album after this one (Gypsy Blood) is even better!"

"Classic rock and roll. Powerful music that assaults your senses and stands up to brilliantly still, after the passage of time. A must have album with wonderfully inventive lyrics and superb guitar playing"
