"Hashimoto mostly avoids the same ol' Scarlatti sonatas, the ones everyone plays. I am listening to K 469 as I type this, and it is brilliant.
Scarlatti is the only composer I know of who seems to have intentionally written irritating music--I don't know how else to put it, and taken in small doses, it's a cool stylistic feature.
Hash's performance of K 99, which fits this description, captures that irritating quality to perfection with its foot-dragging 2nd half.
I agree that the sound quality is outstanding in this recording. That said, I wish Hashimoto were playing an instrument better suited to Scarlatti than Dowd's Taskin copy. But hey, you can't have everything."
