Hidden Tracks...
Richard A. Whipple | Warszawa, Poland | 04/12/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this recently to update it from my tape collection so I was well aware of what I was buying, and eager to pop it into my computer and to hear the brilliant melodies of cleverly hidden sexual innuendo. (I adore clever lyrics in my music.) That's when I saw the two hidden tracks:

The first is Track 7, (Embrace You) Like The Wind - or this is my best guess at a title because, unlike the tape, there is no lyric sheet. Truly the bonus tracks are hidden as Windows identifies Track 7 as Tenderness Place (at 4:40!)

Well, it's not. Track 7 follows Kayaking.

(Embrace You) Like The Wind is a nice twangy, guitar ballad that captures the breezy backing harmonies these three ladies display throughout the whole album. The subject matter of this song is more sentimental than the tongue in cheek Kayaking or the tasty, sticky warmth of Sweet Tooth but this is just fine. Tenderness Place follows this track (at 1:39), which makes a palatable complement to the ladies' exhibition of well-endowed harmonies ever upfront in that little argyle number.

Track 10 is a delightful rendition of Winter Wonderland (2:30). This one makes it onto R.A.'s MP3 CD for Christmas music. I am sure I will be sick of it by the time the New Year arrives but, until then, it is a wonderful, light rendering of this song owned by Bing Crosby's throaty, velvet tone, IMHO.

The liner notes are skint, lacking the lyrics provided on the accordion style wrap of the tape version. However, I have uploaded the image added to the CD version of this album, visually underscoring the playfulness that lives on this recording in overabundance - something evoked from this offering that needs only one listen to confirm.

Enjoy.

R. A.
