El Más Que Canta Esta Aqui De Nuevo - Domingo Otravez

(5 out of 5 stars)

"FOR ALL THE BEST COLLECTORS OF GOOD SALSA DOMINGO IS THE POET WARRIOR THAT BRINGS US A ROAD MAP FOR HAPPINESS...In Poeta y Guerrero Domingo Quiñones composed seven out of the nine songs of the production. The production is far from today's norm of all love salsa songs. Poeta y Guerrero includes songs of self-improvement, anti-abortion, women empowerment, infidelity, anti-drug usage, drive-by shootings, and the real meaning of love. To sum it up, Domingo has been looking at life and noticed a lot of problems in society; so he composed a bunch of songs that reflected the times we are leaving in. No other salsa artist of today is doing this kind of work. Most singers of today are recording songs about love and that's it. Not to diminish or underestimate the power of love but, after a while one gets bored with the same subject; and for the most part after 3 seconds it's all over anyway; so what's really the point of so much love themes. Perhaps this is why Domingo stands out in that he provides a balance with his productions. Today we are engaged in spiritual and cultural issues yet for the most part this is not showing up in Latin music. Today politics, the environment, crime, diversity, religious wars, and homelessness are taking up a lot bandwidth. There's a war in Israel you know; these are serious issues yet all we hear in radio is "I Love you". Children are dying in gun battles and all we hear in salsa is No Me Dejes. We should be hearing songs like Se Necesita un Milagro. And as we move into this new century it seems that in tropical music we are still counting daisy's. Not too long ago welfare and food stamps were a way of life; we need to improve ourselves by having orgy's with reality; and not with fantasies. In Poeta y Guerrero my favorite track is Te Conozco. Te Conozco is a song about the battle that we face day-to-day with the devil. On this song Domingo brings to music what Christianity did with him and how strong he has become through his faith in God's name. It's an awesome message; with rich lyrics and eloquence in the pronunciation of the Spanish language with the rhythm of son montuno and guajira. All the songs of Poeta y Guerrero are about the reality that we live today. In particular, Una Historia. Una Historia is the last track and in it Domingo sings about his experiences as a drug consumer. It conveys how he got hooked on drugs, how much he suffered, and how he broke away from addiction. Basically, Poeta y Guerrero is Domingo's interpretation of where he came from, who he is, and where he's going. If you are looking for a balance of good music, dancing tunes, and meaningfull lyrics...well click on this CD...you will not regret it bacause it also includes a movie interview that you can watch on your PC. After all we are dealing with Domingo Quiñones "El Más Que Canta"."
A definite must!

"For many New Yorkers Domingo was a voice heard but a name unrecognized. That has all change since Quien Mato a Hector Lavoe and his latest CD. The title track and Domingo Busca un Amor are just two favorites. Listen to Como Saber or Asi es el Amor or Te Conozco to get a real flavor of the #1 sonero in NYC and Puerto Rico's Salsa scene. Not only do his words speak of truth but the delivery is impeccable. Treat yourself to the sound of one of the masters of Salsa music and enjoy!"
