"I am aware that writing music reviews is rather futile, as it is really based on personal taste. However, I feel compelled to write a review, as there is no word about this on this site.
This is quite possibly one of the greatest apocalyptic CD's ever created. From their jaw-dropping opening, to their final, cautionary finale, you are taken through a trip of dark, metallic sounds and heavy lyrics. Those who adored their debut album, The Hand and the Sword, will be disappointed about the lack of Elizabeth's vocals, and the abundance of Tharen's disstorted voice. At first I was, but later came to realize that this is NOT Dargaard, and it cannot just rely on Elizabeth's vocals like Dargaard does. Not that Dargaard is bad (quite the opposite in fact). It's just a different style even though it's the same people.
In all, a fantastic album. Very weird, but astounding nevertheless: 9.5/10Preists of Emptiness: Creepy 8+ minute song. Dark song with Tharen and Liz's vocals: 9/10Conductors of Live: VERY, VERY bizarre track, strangest on the album, with vocals possibly by Tharen, but I really don't know. Quite mediocre overall: 6/10Unreal: Easily the best lyrics on the entire album, possibly some of the best lyrics ever written (check em' out at www.elyrics.net). Entire song has only Tharen's harsh vocals, but the overall effect is so astounding, it completely washes away how annoying he can get: 10/10Code Red: Instrumental that is quite cool. The whole song is based upon the sound of a code red alarm. Very ingenious!: 9/10Coming winter: LONG ending (almost 10 minutes) perfectly wraps up the album. It feels a bit streched, but who cares. Only Tharen "sings", but Elizabeth shows up (talking) at the end. You'd have to hear it to fully understand. The track ends with a scary message: 9/10Total runtime: 43:43 minOne other thing I should mention. There are no breaks between tracks. Each one runs into the next. This may sound annoying to those who would prefer to just listen to one track rather than the whole album. However, if you start on any track, it sounds like the beginning rather than having started in the one before. Therefore you could play the tracks completely out of order and loose nothing at all. I don't know how they did this, but rest assured, the result is breathtaking... trust me."
