"My first encounter with Don Blackman was at the original Agora in Cleveland, Ohio. Don was playing with Lenny White in a band that included Marcus Miller and Denzil Miller. The show was a tour de force that seemed to be anchored by the grooves, melodies and vocals of Don Blackman.



As you can imagine, the level of virtuosity was off the charts and I must say that I have not seen many concerts that have ever offered this level of musicianship and enjoyment.



To my amazement, some time later, I noticed an obscure album in the cut out section of my favourite music store. This was Don Blackman's first album. The album was simply entitled "BLACKMAN". I purchased it and WOW. I must have worn out about 3 of the LP's. It was too FUNKY!



I always wondered what happened to this incredible musician? I have his original album. But after wearing out my last phonograph needle and not being able to locate another, this album along with many, many others is just sittng and collecting dust.



The other night, I was on AMAZON.COM looking for some new music and I decided that I wanted to find out whether Don Blackman's old album was on CD yet??? To my amazement, not only was the "BLACKMAN" album on CD, I discovered that he had another and I was thrilled to purchase it.



"LISTEN" is like the second album in a 2 record set, only it was released 20 plus years after the first album. The FUNKY, GROOVY, SOULFUL music continues. Thanks Don for a great album. Please don't make me wait another 20 years!!!
