Synopsis

Product Description
National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum (Cowboy Hall of Fame) Wrangler Award winner for Best Traditional Album of the Year 2001. Don Edwards is often compared to Marty Robbins. No surprise here, as both are great singers of Western Music. Robbins was and continues to be one of Don's biggest influences. While performing, Edwards will often sing a song either written by or associated with Robbins, and afterwards fans will ask if there is a recording with Don's version of those songs. Now there is, Kin To The Wind. Don is joined here with his pickin' pals from Texas, including Rich O'Brien, Tom Morrell, Mark Abbott and the Tex-Mex trumpets of Dave Alexander and Bill Atwood.

CD Reviews

A Labor of Love
Garry Lafollette | Winchester, VA | 01/19/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've always thought Hag was without peer for capturing the nuances of another singer's phrasings, but on this disc Don Edwards nails Marty everybit as well as Hag did Jimmie Rodgers or Tommy Duncan on his late 60's albums. If you're a Don Edwards fan the disc is a feat of artistic reach, if you're a Marty Robbins fan, the impact is almost eery. One cautionary note, while Don Edwards has done a remarkable job of replicating Marty's sound, if you prefer cover efforts that combine 2 styles, ala Patsy Cline's recordings of Hank and Tommy Duncan, this disc will disapoint for the very reason I gave it 5 stars. It is sooo faithful to the origional."
Great versions of Marty's Songs

"Don has picked some great Marty Robbins songs to take on without just rehashing the classics like El Paso and Big Iron. Kin to the Wind and Ghost Train are great. Nobody can do a Marty song like Don. His voice is reminiscent of Marty without impersonating him. Even the CD cover, by much missed western artist Joelle Smith, is great. Give it a try!"
