Synopsis

Album Description
McLean went in a dozen directions on this 1977 release. There are wild tunes like 'Jump' (with great piano playing by Howie Wyeth), solemn ones like 'The Statue', which is a solo vocal and string quartet (15 years before Elvis Costello's The Juliet Letters), and back-to-the-roots banjo playing on 'Redwing'. Remastered.

CD Reviews

Sharp middle-period McLean record with lots of appeal
A. Butterfield | UK | 06/17/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"There are some great songs on this album, whether it's the clever title track, the reflective When Love Begins or the manic Jump. Plenty of variety too. It's only in songs like When a Good Thing Goes Bad (prophetic perhaps) that we see signs of McLean's impending slide into Drivelsville. Highly recommended."
