"Don Schlitz is truly one of the great success stories in the history of Nashville's songwriting community. His early success, starting with "The Gambler" that put Kenny Rogers into super-superstar status, has continued throughout the last 25 years with songs for Alabama, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Michael Johnson, among others. This recording, a live set recorded over a period of time at Music City's famous Bluebird Cafe, showcases Schlitz with just vocal and guitar, just how they do it at songwriters' nights. What keeps this recording from being 5 stars is a lack of variation of production. Everything has a tendancy to sound too similar. Songwise, it's hard not to like the material, and Don is certainly a role model for others to follow, including me. Thanks for including "The Greatest" and "I Watched It All On The Radio", Don. It brought back a lot of memories of my baseball days as a kid in little league. Keep on writing them hits, mister...could we try to tackle something together?"
