"Most of the songs that Don Williams is famous for date from the seventies and early eighties - classics such as You're my best friend, Till the rivers all run dry, Some broken hearts never mend, Tulsa time, I believe in you and Lord I hope this day is good, all of which went to number one on the American charts. And we must not forget I recall a gypsy woman, a British top twenty pop hit that was never released as a single in America. All those tracks can found on other compilation. This album contains his music from a more recent time, still very similar in style to his earlier music.
Don recorded these albums for a label (RCA or Arista) that later became part of the BMG group. During this period, he had four top five country hits, three of which (True love, I've been loved by the best and Just as long as I have you) are included here. The fourth (Back in my younger days) is omitted, but that won't matter to the vast majority of British customers who buy this, since all the songs here are of a uniformly high quality.
Some fans may recognize Lone star state of mind (the title track of one of a Nanci Griffith album, which included the original version of From a distance) and Standing in the river dying of thirst (which can be found on a Kathy Mattea album, Lonesome standard time).
If you already have a collection of Don's classic songs (of which there are plenty to choose from) and you would like more of the same bit without duplicating the songs you already have, you'll love this."

"Don Williams is as smooth as ever with this album. His soft, melodius voice is always a pleasure to listen to whether you are alone or with someone you love. He never lets his fans down. Don - thanks again."

"Some of the songs in this album were new to me, but I have never heard a Don Williams tune that I didn't like. He is just the greatest. Country music has gotten to be too jazzy and 'frantic' for me; give me the old smoothies like DW any day of the week. He is about the only one I listen to these days. There will never be another one as good as he is."

"Don Williams' CD titled LOVE STORIES is a welcome find. When you think you have heard everthing Don had recorded, buy this. The 20 selections came from three highly acclaimed Arista Records albums -- albums I had never heard -- 20 selections not found on any other album currently for sale. Don't let the blank page fool you. This CD is a keeper."
Good budget compilation from his three RCA albums 1989-92

"Albums: ONE GOOD WELL(1989), TRUE LOVE(1990), CURRENTS(1992). These songs were not his best but are well worth a listen.Bob McDills "I've Been Loved By The Best" and his own "Cryin' Eyes", with great fiddle work by Mark O'Connor, are highlights. The re-recorded "We're All The Way", originally on his 1979 album Portrait, are naturally good. The selections from 1990, including the hit "True Love", tend to be a bit pedestrian and average. He made some fine recordings in 1992. "Standing Knee Deep In A River", later a hit for Kathy Mattea, is a classic Don recording. "Back On The Street Again" were only available as the B-side of one of his singles, so that is really a bonus here. Most of the tracks are not to be found elsewhere since the original albums are out of print. If you're a DW fan or you just like country radio, this is a safe buy."
