"Somehow Byrd's earlier records stayed a bit in the shadows. (Including the "jazz lab" years with Gigi Gryce). That's too bad, because I do like the sound of Byrd in his earlier years a bit more then his 'golden' blue note years. And this record is such a fine example of the soft and deep trumpet sound of Byrd, together with the sound of the early bop scene. The Perfect Blend!
This session finds Byrd in great form with tenor saxophonist Frank Foster. Listen to 'Long Green' and 'Star Eyes', kick back and relax to the sound of hard bop from the '50.
This record really is a great addition to any hard bop or Byrd collection and I recommend it 100%.
For everyone who knows his Blue Note sound, do pick up this one because this is Byrd again a bit more swingin' but definetly at a peak! A great recording, I love it!"
