"Yeah, the girl on the cover is adorable (you should see the gatefold on my vinyl) but it's what's inside that counts. When I first saw this album I assumed it was later period *blaxploitation* Byrd like that of "Street Lady" or "Stepping..." but this is straight-ahead jazz. This transitional album shows Byrd moving toward modal jazz and even hinting avant-garde while still firmly planted in the blues. Much more "serious" sounding than his later, funk-riddled Blue Note projects. Originally released in 1967, this is the first time this music has been issued on CD."
