"Despite what you may think, you are getting two operas here for the same price as one! The first is Donizetti's original 'Emilia de Liverpool' which did not do very well so then he completely revised it so that it became alomst a completely different opera called 'L'eremitaggio di Liwerpool'. Opera-Rara has recorded both of these 2act operas in completion on three discs. I suppose since it woulnd't be fair to mesh the two together since they are very different musically and by the plot they decided that rather then decide on one or the other, they would give us both and I'm glad they did. The more Donizetti you get, the better and as both opera's are gorgeous pieces of work, it's all the more a treat.
The singing is superb as is the orchestra and the almost never fail quality of the sound. Not to mention if you are at all curious about the history of this work, the book that's enclosed will tell you everything there is to know. Plus there is the usual libretti in orginal Italian and next to it the English translation.
If you are a fan of Donizetti's works and his style of music, you will not at all be disapointed with this album. When you first finish listening to it, you wont know which version you like better. But on repeat listenings you may come to a conclusion (I like the first version a little bit better). To any just plain opera fans, when can you ever go wrong with a Donizetti work? Add this to your library, you will not regret it."
