"I was expecting a watery-sounding live recording of this performance, but it is brilliantly recorded! While some may consider this the weaker of Donizetti's 'Three Queens' operas, and there are some glaring historical flaws(!), but it is a work of incredible tension and Mary Stuart comes across as the flawed, romantic, and most sympathetic of all the queens.
Joseph Calleja, the rising Maltese tenor does a magnificent job as Lesicester! A stunningly consistent and beatiful vocal performance. Soprano Carmela Remgio is a gem. Her voice soars and belies her magnificent Italian training. I hope she arrives in American house soon!
Enjoy this wonderful bel canto gem! It's worth every cent!"
Splendid!
