Album Description The Donkeys are four dudes from San Diego. They like making music together. Sometimes their music is loud, and sometimes it's quiet, but it is always awesome. The Donkeys are Sam, Jessie, Tim and Anthony. This is what The Donkeys told me and they also said they didn't want me to make them sound too retro or `60s and I'm gonna try not to, because it wouldn't be fair. The Donkeys basically just write great songs. At one time or another, various members of The Donkeys have been the backing band for Cass McCombs, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and Papercuts. On their own, they've got the ramshackle tightness of The Band, or Jerry Jeff Walker, or Will Oldham. The raw power of Ronnie Hawkins, or Neutral Milk Hotel. The pop chops of Beulah, or Of Montreal. The psychedelic mystery of the Gris Gris, or Skip Spence. While none of these comparisons fully does it, and the fellas will probably hate my choices, it's a starting point. The Donkeys do country-rock, The Donkeys do pop, The Donkeys do indie-rock, The Donkeys do psych. The Donkeys do.
