Very Enjoyable, But She's Got Better Albums

"From a versatility standpoint, no one outshines Doris Day. Julie Andrews may have a better voice, but no one can match Doris Day for her range, and by that I mean, from pop to jazz to ballads. I like this album because it has some "perky" songs, songs that have stayed with me since she and Howard Keel sang in Calamity Jane. But it is not one of the top 10.
I have 16 of her CDs which translates into about 28 LPs. It's too bad there are so many duplicates, but I like her so much that I've bought some CDs for just two or three songs. That said, much as I like the album, I still can't get used to her signing "I Wish I Had a Girl."
If you like Calamity Jane that much, then you can't pass this one up. But if you don't have her doubles of "What Every Girl Should Know/I Have Dreamed," and "Day by Day/Day by Night," those rate an 8.
Hard to believe that she'll be 84 next month. But there's one more thing to appreciate her for: she knew when she was at her peak, and she quit. Too bad Tony Bennett and all the 80-year-olds that PBS has resurrected didn't take a clue from DD.
Happy birthday, Doris. You got me through high school and college cram sessions, excruciating deadlines for editorials at work, and even the boredom of the gym."

"I purchased Doris Day "I'll See You In MY Dreams" / "Calamity Jane" CD because I love the songs from the movie "Calamity Jane". "The Black Hills of Dakota" is my favorite and I really have enjoyed singing right along with the wonderful sound of my CD."
