CD ReviewsHard Rockers, DORO is my gift to you!! Mr D. | Cave Creek, Az United States | 01/25/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "Hard rocking babe Doro is a self proclaimed female warrior and from her appearance she could give Xena a run. Always appearing in black leather with goobs of metal, she could certainly be pictured on a Harley, if not as a warrior. Hey, I've known about Doro for a couple of years. Just like I knew about Lita Ford and Mellissa Manchester. But just like with, Lita and Mellissa, I thought, she's a woman, she can't really rock can she? You'd have thought that after Pat Benitar, Joan Jett, Heart and Siouxsie and the Banshees that I would have overcome my little bit of chauvinism. And let's not forget that I've written fifteen reviews of groups fronted by ladies, performing some variation of Metal, be it Gothic, Symphonic or Black Metal, but of course Doro Pesch is Hard Rock. Well, I have overcome any chauvinism now. Let me tell you, we (meaning men) have got to stop putting the little ladies up on pedestals because some of them like Doro can get down in the trenches and rock, and I mean ROCK with capital letters, with the best of the guys. I have learned my lesson this time, it takes attitude for great rock, not a c*ck! I am reviewing the Limited edition digipack version of Fight, which contains one additional bonus track "Song for Me" and live video tracks of "Fight" and "Always Live to Win". The digipack is a very nice container with excellent artwork and photos of Doro Fight is a well balanced album, containing five hard rocking numbers, a couple medium rock numbers and medium slow rock numbers and four ballads. The album opens with two hard rock songs, the title track and "Always Live to Win", followed by a dark bluesy number, "Desent" in which Pesch is joined by Peter Steele of Type O Negative. Next, is a nice medium fast number, "Salvaje" which reminds me of Pat Benitar and then the first ballad a gem called "Undying", followed by the medium slow rock song, "Legends never Die" which is a cover of Wendy O Williams and was written by Gene Simmons of Kiss. Then comes medium tempo, "Rock Before You Bleed", kind of an anthem, followed by the varied tempo, "Sister Darkness" and then my favorite "Wild Heart" another varied but mostly mid tempo blusy song. The final four songs are three ballads, "Fight by your Side", "Hoffnung" and "Song for Me", with the hard rock number "Chained", sandwiched in between. Killer tracks: Undying, Salvaje, Descent, Legends never Die and Wild heart. Conclusion Everyone who likes Hard and Heavy rock with some metal influences should check this one out. Don't be turned off by the fact that it's a female singer. She has loads of power in her voice and sings with real emotion, however the production, which I seldom mention in reviews, could have been better. Similar artists: Pat Benitar, Vixen, Heart, Lita Ford, Mellissa Manchester, Donna Summer, Pointer Sisters, Britny Spears(ha, got ya on that one)" The Metal Goddess Strikes Again Mark Morton | Boyertown, PA USA | 07/16/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "With ?Fight,? Ms. Pesch has created the most inspired and diverse collection of material she?s released in years. While many are quick to pass the disc off as the same old Doro?and in some respects they are right?there is absolutely NO woman in the heavy metal scene with as much dedication and enthusiasm for the art than Doro Pesch. It is obvious within each song that she is passionate and puts every ounce of her soul into her work. Fist-pumping anthems like "Fight" and "Always Live To Win," fervent power ballads like "Wild Heart" and "Hoffnung," and the sobering "Fight By Your Side" are ample proof that Doro is a woman on a mission. For her hardcore fans (or the techno-geeks of the world), a limited edition digipak configuration of ?Fight? was pressed, featuring a bonus acoustic track, "Song For Me" (which eerily echoes Savatage?s "When The Crowds Are Gone"), two live videos, a photo gallery (drool...), bio info, and other Web-related goodies. All in all, ?Fight? is extremely focused and offers ample evidence of one woman?s unyielding will to survive (and thrive) in the age-old, clichéd boys? club known as heavy metal." Doro kiks it once again, Your ... I mean Alan Chadwick Radford | Nashville, TN United States | 02/08/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "Really hard hitting album. Doro simply refuses to mellow with age. this would be great for fans of the old school metal of the 1980s. She remains true to her sound and her vision and does not jump the nu-metal bandwagon like a lot of her peers have done in recent years. This is also great because of the two kickass videos that come with it. They are professionally done and Doro looks as great and intense as ever. Man I'd love to see her live!! Ya gotta get this!"
