Puts a tap in your foot and some voodoo in your soul

"Where "The Night Tripper" arose from the swamps.
This makes a nice affordable chunk of Atlantic years from Dr. John, for those who want to collect him. Comes with 5 CDs packaged together as the original LPs in simple paper jackets with no bonus tracks and small print.
For those wanting a booklet, lyrics, typeset you can read, etc., you won't find that here. Also missing, is the really odd photo of a young Dr. John dressed in a striped suit standing in the rest room stall or whatever that was inside the gatefold of the original LP of "Gumbo", of which I've had for decades. I always thought it was creepy and kind of miss it here.
As far as sound goes, it is NOT remastered at what would be considered state of the art in 2010, but is possibly the original European masters Warner/Atlantic used to release them there. So not bad; no noticeable tape hiss and has some dynamics. 1960s stereo separation can be annoying sometimes, especially on "Babylon" here, but by far Babylon is the weakest album/CD of the set, anyway.
If you want a great Dr. John Atlantic collection, just pick up this set and "Destively Bonnaroo" and you've got almost all you would need of Dr. John in the 1960s and 1970s and nearly all of his Atlantic material. Six discs for a reasonable amount of money. The album "Remedies" won't be missed much; it's only got a few good songs, anyway ("Mos' Scocious Anthology" has the best of them).
So pick up on the strange groove of Dr. John and enjoy the music gumbo!"
