Synopsis

Description
After thirteen years, two major label record deals, five top forty and two top ten hits, Drew Womack has left his band to record his first solo record. Drew was the lead singer and primary songwriter for the Texas based band "Sons of the Desert". The band started back in 1989 and went on to gain critical acclaim in the country music industry. They took home three "Academy of Country Music" awards, one "Country Music Association" award, and a grammy nomination for there collaboration with Leann Womack on "I hope you dance" along with countless other awards they received through the years. Drew Womack (no relation to Leann), with his wife Tara and two year old son Max decided in october of 03' to move back to Austin Texas. " I can develope a solo career any from anywhere and We've always said We wanted to raise our kids back home in Texas." So now, after a year back in Austin Drew's self titled record is completed. All the songs on "Drew Womack/Drew Womack" are either written or co-written by Drew. Some of his friends that added there talent to the project were Radney Foster, Tom Douglas, "The Sons"; Scott Saunders, Tim Womack, Doug Virden, Dave Ristrim, Jim Beavers, and many more. The best way to sum up this first solo effort is best said by Drew himself. "All the songs I saved for this cd are my favorites that I've written through the years. With no deadlines or pressure I was able to take my time.I feel the sincerety of an artist really shines through when he or she can prepare for a project and be envolved in every move. Needless to say, I've been planning and preparing for this record for a very long time." Songs include: Hey Daisy; Any Love At All; Premium Gasoline; That's Just Me; Leaving October; To Her And Back; Fastest Way To Texas; Waiting On A Bullet; The Devil's Working Overtime; Fine Art Of Failure; Tearin It Up Tonight; Melancholy Cafe

CD Reviews

"Drew Womack"....AWESOME Album!!
Roxanne | Texas | 10/22/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"5 Star and AWESOME! Drew's self-title album "Drew Womack" is compiled of twelve songs...some new, some old...but there's a song for everyone on this CD. Most of us know that Drew fronted Sons of the Desert and if you're looking for the sounds of SOD, you won't find it on this CD. However, Scott Saunders (keyboard), Tim Womack (Guitar) and Doug Virden (bass) guest accompanists are on this new album. The Drew Womack Band has certainly remixed a couple old SOD songs and have done it well, but let's keep in mind that Drew has souly written six of the twelve songs on this album with the other remaining six he cowrote with songwriters such as Radney Foster, Jim Beavers, Wyatt Easterling, Tom Douglas, Scott Saunders and wife, Tara Womack. Drew is an extraordinary talent which has been overlooked for way too long...in my opinion. This guy should be at the top of the country charts...if not at least in the top 10. Premium Gasoline is a favorite of mine and I can just hear this song as a theme song for NASCAR or perhaps advertising a model of truck...such as another artist (and I won't mention his name) has done. Drew's new single "Hey Daisy", which is undoubtedly the #1 song on the new CD, is a great upbeat song and like one of the stanzas says...I'll give you time and you'll see the light. I really and truly believe that in time all country music lovers alike will see the light to the talent of Drew Womack and his band. If you haven't ordered your copy of the self-titled album "Drew Womack" yet, I suggest you get it and give it a listen. You'll be hooked on the AWESOME, and there's really no other word to describe them, songs included in this CD. Most definitely a 5 Star album! Get yours today...you won't be dissatisified!

SOD fans won't be disappointed... 5 out of 5 stars!

"I was very impressed with Drew Womack's first full length solo release. I thought the sound was similar (not identical though) to his pervious works with Sons of the Desert, but the songwriting and music was much stronger. The tracks showed a wide range of emotion and musical ability. Although I don't think it is easy to put this CD in a premade category, I would say it has a strong "Texas" sound- a mix of some traditional country sound with a bit of an underlying "rock" feel. "Hey Daisy" is slated to be the first single released and has a happy, up-tempo swing feel. The CD also includes a remake of the Sons of the Desert hit "Leaving October," as well as a guest guitar solo by Tim Womack on "Waiting On A Bullet" and guest background vocals by Doug Virden on "Fastest Way to Texas" and "Hey Daisy."

Overall, I think this is a CD that any and all fans of MUSIC can appreciate. Drew Womack and his band are extremely talented musicians, and it shines through in the album.

"When a friend had told me SOD weren't together anymore I was completely bummed. Then he told me Drew was still performing and in the process of releasing a new CD. That was music to my ears (no pun intended). Drew's voice pulls you into his songs and his songwriting is out of this world. I listen to this cd every chance I get and it's like hearing him for the first time all over again! This cd will be my companion when my husband, daughter, and I get restationed to Italy...a piece of heaven in a foreign place."
