The Drowning started in the late part of 2003 heavily influenced by the early dark doom of the Nineties. Setting out to introduce today's music fans with old school British dark doom which hadn't seen much attention since, and thus bringing the sound of early Northern British pioneers such as Anathema, My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost back to to fore. It's certainly insufficient to call The Drowning just a Metal based band, bringing that inspiration from the darker ambient side of music with the likes of the above bands influence, as well as incorporating the use of acoustic guitars and keyboards effects, to create a larger and darker edge making The Drowning hard to compare with bands from the same genre.
