The self-titled debut by the London trio Drugstore is a moody, atmospheric guitar album that could be viewed as England's answer to Mazzy Star. Thankfully, guitarist-vocalist Isabel Monteiro is a much more galvinizing performer than Hope Sandoval, and tunes such as "Speaker 12" and "Super Glider" rock a lot harder than anything David Roback has done in a while. "I bought this album never having heard of drugstore before. I picked it up used on cassette for cheap. Being a fan of psychedelic music, I was intrigued by the cover. This album is cranberry style mid nineties grunge with an element of screechy guitar experimentation. "If" is definately a highlight for me. Isabel's sad voice and melancholy lyrics afford the music an eerie, hair-on-end quality which I find hypnotic. This mildly progressive self-titled debut if definately worth the purchase."

"The music is great. the lyrics are too. Such songs as "devil", "speaker 12", and "favorite sinner" are thought-prevoking. Love, breakup, sex, alcohol/drug abuse are all covered here. And my goodness when she whispers "slow down honey" at the end of "accelerate", i instantly get shivers, at that time of the song I fall in love with her. She has a voice that is similar to Hope Sandoval but she seems more sincere than the Mazzy Star singer."
