Musically, his 'haunting songs' (New York Daily News) blend Sufjan Stevens art-folk with Gillian Welch country. But just when you least expect it, Dudley will dip back into his Kentucky roots, as on the coal-mining ballad, The Winding Sheet: 'The mine is so dark/You tunnel too deep/To coal from the Ark/You'd dig Eden Tree.'
