So here I sit

"Aside from Reagan and acid rain, the '80s really were a great decade -- especially for music. So many cool bands just kind of sprung up and put stuff out, and if you lived near a big city you could go to an indie record store and pick it up. Progressive radio stations used to actually play this music, instead of the flavor of the month sent to them by the boys at the big labels. Dumptruck was one of those great indie bands. They had that '80s sound that back then was so refreshing and new -- the ringing guitars, the bouncing bass, tight drums, earnest lyrics that really hit you when you were in your 20s and thought cynicism was a cool form of social protest. Just to shake things up a bit, Dumptruck added a dose of Joy Division to the mix. (Just a tiny dose; they were nowhere near as intense.) In my opinion, this is the best Dumptruck record. The production is much better than the first, and this record features the original lineup. Dumptruck was essentially a duo, and after this record, one of the guys split. It just wasn't the same after that. There is not a dud on this record. It really takes me back to a special time and place, if only fleetingly. I play it in my car, where, as I'm fond of saying, it's always 1987. Are you 42? Go now and do likewise.
