Pop Trash that isn't...

"Poking fun at themselves is something Duran Duran has done before on the Wedding album with, "Too Much Information," or on Medazzaland with, "Undergoing Treatment." It is a refreshing attitude, given the grand larger than life polished feel that most of the groups music strives to and attains as well as any other band out there. The single Pop Trash was to be a Blondie song, but ended up being used by the group for this album instead. Can't you hear Blondie singing it though? Duran Duran's own version is nevertheless compelling. It seems to have an Andy Warhol kind of philosophy; the idea that art can attain such importance in life as to eclipse all else and create its own reality. Yet it also is done with the humor thrown in by using the title pop trash. Self-effacing even though the grandeur of the music is anything but.
I love Duran Duran for aspiring to lofty heights of musical brilliance while still bringing the listner into awareness that the band doesn't take itself too seriously. There are some great tracks on this album that any Duran Duran fan will enjoy over and over. I will pull this album out to listen to before any of their older classic stuff which many people consider superior work. It's not. Duran Duran is a current band making current music.
Take a listen and enjoy!"
