Amazon.comThis English ensemble scored with an excellent disc of Czech Trios by Smetana, Suk, and Novák (also for Naxos). They are just as good at playing Dvorák's music. The massive Trio in F Minor, Op. 65, all 42 minutes of it, is far less familiar than the Dumky (Dvorák's greatest trio). But if you have the patience for its discursive, leisurely development, you will be rewarded with a memorable experience in romantic chamber music, especially in this ardent, beautifully played performance. Despite the greater competition, the Dumky is a similar success, a well-organized conception that sings with disciplined fervor. Pianist John Lenehan's tone is particularly beautiful, but his string-playing colleagues are also very fine, even if the cello is sometimes a bit underbalanced in Op. 65. This well-recorded disc would be competitive at any price. --Leslie Gerber
