"This is wonderful music. Two masterpieces of orchestral music by two great Czech composers. Janacek's neo-romantic but spiky-edged Sinfonietta is the better known of these two works. The conductor Neeme Jarvi directs the Bamberg Symphony Orchesta skilfully in the Sinfonietta's quirky melodies and great fanfares, and holds you captive.
The other work is just as great. Dvorak's ten "Legends" for orchestra aren't quite as well known as his other orchestral music, namely the last three symphonies, the Slavonic Dances, overtures, or some of the tone poems...but it easily equals those works in melodic inventiveness and inspiration.
You can buy either of these two works in more conveniently packaged performances (sets with more Dvorak or more Janacek), but don't let that be a factor in your decision to buy or not buy this CD of great music and idiomatic playing. This is great music-making!"
