A Brawny Voice, A Brazen Debut
Milky Mixer | 07/27/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Dylan Rice is a guy you've never heard of. He's not the flavor-of-the-month on your pop radio station, his video isn't topping at number one on TRL, and he has no major record label pushing him into your ears. But what he does have is something very few of today's chartmakers actually possess - raw talent and a ballsy voice that will stop you dead in your tracks!

I read a short review of Dylan's debut, WANDERING EYES in a gay magazine a few months back. That's right, he prefers the guys. But while some of his songs definitely play to a gay sensibility, the themes he's singing about are essentially universal: soured relationships, childhood disappointments, true friendships, and the longing for a real loving connection in a detached world. Things everyone can relate to. His twelve handpenned songs are a tapestry of emotions with a copious amount of catchy hooks and choruses that'll have you singing along - but the most engaging thing about WANDERING EYES is Dylan's deep, magnetic voice. Ahhh, that voice! He's the real deal, powerfully packing every tune with feeling - whether he's being tough and no-nonsense on JUST LIKE YOU and DRAMA QUEEN, absolutely heartbreaking on I DO & I DON'T and LUCKY TO NEED YOU, mustering hope on ONE PURE THING, or oozing sex on TRUER DAYS - he'll catch you and keep you with every track. His voice could almost be a religion, it's that remarkable! Top the whole package off with his handsome looks and you've got the makings of an underground idol ready to follow in the footsteps of Duncan Sheik and Howie Day.

(As a sidenote, even my indie record stores hadn't heard of this guy - after searching for a couple of months I finally picked up my copy through Amazon. So don't miss out! And Dylan, if you're reading this, I want to marry you.)"
This is the best album I have ever....

"Dylan Rice is a genius. A GENIUS. I think I spelled that right. Anyway. his music is unexplainable for me,I don't think there's a word in the dictionary to describe it just yet. But it's so good, so thoughtful and thought-provoking(??). And I mean, yes, his Lyrics are fantastic, but his voice is.......so crazy, man. It's like he makes you sorta feel every word. I bet you the guy could sing a song with no lyrics and you'd still get what the song was about. This is odd sounding, but he is a beautiful performer all 'round. I was extremely overwhelmed with how great this album was. "Truer Days" "Intangible" "One Pure Thing" "Wandering Eyes" (all time favorite). Especially,"Lucky to Need You" I felt that!! But, truly, EVERY track on this album is absolutely FANTASTIC. This is my second time buying it because I scratched the hey out the other copy. I wore that thing OUT!!!! Dylan, You R-O-C-K ROCK!!! Keep it up. you da bomb, man!!"
Pop rock with an edge that cuts deep

"A complete album: energizng, far-from-your-standard rock chords, with lyrics that express something different every time you hear them. For me, the highlight of the album is Rice's outstanding & cunning voice: with a strength and range that is comparable to George Michael or Bono, it has a sexiness that is nothing less than unique. 'Wandering Eyes' is an album that will wake you up from the stale state of independent rock music and will leave you wanting more."
