CD ReviewsGreat band Gaytana Carrino | Chicago, IL United States | 06/10/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "I was in a band with these guys before they became east ash. Roommates as well. Rob was one of the best guitarists I ever played with, Don was an insane drummer, and Jeff was - well, Jeff. All were fantastic creative people. I always thought these guys got the short end. If they hadn't been in Columbia or had a great producer they might have done better. They had all the stuff. Ahead of their time I think." What if U2 got better instead of worse? jesse sterling harrison | south hadley, ma | 03/05/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "East Ash is a band with a sound, a band that was all about a moment in the lives of a few people, a chemistry experiment that worked perfectly just one time, a reaction that could never occur again. Sadly, this album represents the moment AFTER that moment. The band's other album, Crushing a Flood, defies description and really brushes at rock genius, while this one (Ellie) is merely very interesting. The sound: "helicopter" guitars, awash in reverb, cough out lines that range from purely percussive to soaring and melodic. Singer Jeff Rogers accompanies himself on an evil-sounding fretless bass, and sings in an anguished wolf-howl. The band has many moods, all of them bleak...at slow tempo they are incredibly sinister. Uptempo, they're downright scary, careening along behind Don Cizek's obsessive, manic drumming and the wild guitar extrapolations. "ellie" is worth buying just for the best two or three tracks, but this album doesn't hang together like "Crushing a Flood". Find that one first for the undiluted version." Different but great jesse sterling harrison | 12/22/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "This band out of Columbia, MO has a unique sound which produced only 2 albums (Crushing A Flood was the other). I would compare to Sixteen Horsepower, and early Wolfgang Press. A good listen."
