"Eddie Harris was an American original, admired and respected by musicians and audiences alike. Whether mixing it up in a saxophone battle with the likes of Sonny Stitt or experimenting with trumpet mouthpieces in saxophones (and vice versa), or doing stand-up comedy, he was one of a kind. These three sessions on Vee Jay, a local Chicago label, demonstrate his inimitable voice on tenor and expose his musical influences, as he's in the company of some of the Windy City's best--Ira Sullivan, Bunky Green, Willie Pickens, Marshall Thompson, Melvin Rhyne, Joe D'Orio, Gerald Donovan (a veritable history of Chicago jazz from the late '50s to today)."
