the actual title of the album is Beatin' the Odds was the fourteenth studio album of Country music artist Eddie Rabbitt. It was released in 1997 under the Intersound Records label. The album was recorded by Rabbitt after undergoing chemotherapy and having had a part of his lung removed to combat cancer. It was released eight months before his death. It included six new songs and six re-recordings of past hits including "I Love a Rainy Night" and "Drivin' My Life Away" from Horizon, "On Second Thought" and "American Boy" from Jersey Boy, "Two Dollars in the Jukebox" from Rocky Mountain Music and "Suspicions" from Loveline.

"One of modern country music's many shameful events occurred slightly over two years ago when Eddie Rabbitt's untimely death received sporadic attention. Well past his 40th birthday, he (like all of his talented contemporaries)had long been banished from the radio in favor of Nashville's Generation X rockers; most of whom were listening to Rod Stewart or Deborah Harry when Eddie was dominant on the real country stations of the 70s and 80s.This CD actually released the year prior to his death is a fitting top hat to accentuate his long and classy career. The six new songs are all well crafted and fit in easily among the Rabbitt repertoire. The other six are remakes of Eddie's greatest hits and despite being recorded during his losing battle with lung cancer, his voice is as strong and appealing as ever on each track. "Great Old American Town" seems to be an appropriate send off to Eddie Rabbit whose private life embodied fidelity, patriotism, and integrity-no wonder those virtues often found their way into his self-composed songs. Listening to what currently passes for country music and witnessing the shenanigans of so many who sing it, it's easy to wonder if any of these performers will leave a legacy that's even a fraction as inspiring or wholesome as Eddie Rabbitt's life and career did."

"My appreciation for Eddie Rabbit goes back to the 70's. His musical style is so distinctive, applicable to everyday life, enjoyable and most of all entertaining. He stuck to his beliefs and virtues even when the genre was drastically changing. Eddie's music would cause me to stop what I was doing, tap my toes and listen to the words. I connected easily because I realized that often his lyrics were saying exactly what I've gone through at times. When I saw this CD I bought it without any reservation, when I first heard I knew that this was Eddie in unmistakably true form and undenieably at his best. It saddens me that country music lost such a great talent, songwriter and wonderful entertainer. God Bless Eddie, and God Bless his wife and his children for sharing him with us."
