Worship With Lyrical Depth, Original Arrangements

""Celtic Praise" seems to have fallen through the cracks. While some praise albums with Celtic overtones only stylize the songs with an Irish flavor, Eden's Bridge has created truly original arrangements of songs you know well. They've enhanced both the tradition of Celtic music and the power of classic and modern worship songs to move a Christian closer to the living God.This is a praise album through-and-through. These are performances, but have a captivating strength to them. These songs, while musically fantastic, don't get lost in the instruments or voices. Instead, they are a great tool of quiet, pensive, God-pursuing worship.While "Amazing Grace" seems short, it satisfies, and the transition to the rest of the album is smooth. "Son of Man," for example has a soft piano interlude with pipes providing a subtle background."Every Heart" has a mystical, traditional Gaelic tale sound, with an ethereal acoustic guitar running throughout. Likewise, "Flame of Love" brings the song in with an electric guitar walking through with a slight western-blues influence, working well with the solemn message.You've heard Amy Grant's "Thy Word," a fine rendition of her song. Lacy's version clearly is grounded with Grant in mind. However, the music deviates after about two minutes in an early crescendo, lifting the pace up considerably, which carries through the end of the song.The solo lead vocal on all songs, Sarah Lacy's voice is strong, with a hint of Irish intonations. She does not sing with a thick brogue, but more along the Enya-sort of quality. She sings with maturity, steered away from the CCM generic pop-female voice, and this will make this CD live beyond its release date.An old favorite of mine, "O Lord You're Beautiful," the Keith Green song about spiritual renewal, has never sounded as meaningful. The words are the same, but there is an honest tentativeness as Lacy slowly works through each line."More Love, More Power" has an intensity to it that continues to pull me into it simplicity. Drums pace it perfectly.Fans of Enya, Maire Brennan, John Michael Talbot might all enjoy "Celtic Praise" as much as I do.* Amazing Grace (1:51)
