CD Reviews

One Hit Wonders, And Thank God For That

""Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" is one of my all-time favorite pop singles, an absolute masterpiece of that early-70s genre that allowed the Archies to have hit singles, the Jackson Five to have a Saturday morning cartoon show, and opened the way for the Bay City Rollers and the Partridge Family. It's sugary sweet pop but it still rocks; a blend I find spine-tingling.So...why didn't Edison Lighthouse have any other hits?Judging by this "Best of" collection, it's because they were a terrible, terrible band.Songs like "She Works In A Woman's Way," What's Happening," and "Find Mr. Zebedee" give pretension a new lease on life.A couple of things here, most notably "Take A Little Time," sure sound like they were recorded for some Saturday morning cartoon. But, in the end, they're all totally forgettable."

"WELL IT TOOK AWHILE,BUT I FINALLY HAVE A COPY OF SOME OF MY
FAVORITE BUBBLE GUM HITS HERE.LOVE GROWS/IT'S UP TO YOU PETULA.
I HAVE LISTENED TO THESE SONGS VIA VINYL FOR AGES. I HAVE ALWAYS
ADMIRED THE VOCALS OF EDISON LIGHTHOUSE. AND THIS BEST OF IMPORT
IS A DYNAMIC COLLECTION FOR THOSE WHO APPRECIATE AND WANT A QUICK RETURN INTO THE CHEWY CHEWY BUBBLE GUM YEARS. BAZOOKA HAS
NOTHING ON THIS BABY (LOL). TONY BURROWS HAS CONTRIBUTED TO SOME
OF THE MOST UNFORGETTABLE CLASSICS THAT WILL LIVE ON AND ON."
