Synopsis

Album Description
"A clue in every car. A stranger in every seat. Danger at every destination." Climb aboard the 1914 Paris-Constantinople express traveling Europe, on the brink of World War I. So begins THE LAST EXPRESS, a fascinating adventure game by Jordan Mechner and winner of numerous awards, including MacWorld's "Best Role Playing Game" award. As CNN describes THE LAST EXPRESS, it's like ?A mix of Indiana Jones and Alfred Hitchcock....? In the tradition of "Heart Of Darkness" by Bruce Broughton (Intrada MAF 7085) this THE LAST EXPRESS game soundtrack features an evocative and exciting orchestral score by another significant composer, Elia Cmiral. Known for his powerful scores to "Ronin" and "Stigmata," Cmiral is currently working on the new John Travolta sci-fi picture "Battlefield Earth." His dark layer of strings keep "The Last Express" on the rails of mystery while propulsive rhythms provide adventure and excitement. Intrada is a compact-disc label based in Oakland, California devoted solely to releasing film music and promoting the work of film composers. Founded in 1985, Intrada releases current scores by world-renowned composers as well as newcomers to the field. MAF 7089

"My son bought "The Last Express" game back in I think, 95, 96, or 97. Either way, he has had a blast playing hours on end. Any adventure gamer at heart will tell you that The Last Express really is one of the ebst adventure games out there. But we aren't reviewing "The Last Express", now, are we? The soundtrack to TLE is filled with all sorts of various pieces seen in the game, during gameplay, cutscenes, and credit sequences. The rhythm of the beat makes you feel like you are there, on the train, hearing the pistons puff, and the brakes squeal beneath the rusty old locomotive. Upon playing the game, the listener will be able to visualize what is happening, and would be able to tie it in with the music. You'll be able to appreciate the game and the soundtrack a little bit more than usual. My favorite tracks are 5, 6 (Battle Atop the Train), and 18 (Stopping the Train), because they really bring out most of the atmosphere around the train and the power of the train itself. But those tracks aren't the cream of the crop! Check it out for yourself, and see what I really mean, for when the next track curves around, you'll be enjoying the ride 'till the very end."
As flawless and atmospheric as the game.

"The Last Express game was one of the most mesmerizing adventure game I've ever played, and I suspect, ever made. One of the aspect that makes it so great is its soundtrack. And with the release of this CD, the perfection comes full circle. I'm not good at describing music, but suffice it to say that the soundtrack of this game is perfectly suited to the game's majestic, mysterious, sometimes dreamlike atmosphere, with the shadow of tragedy and dread of World War looming over it.

My favorite track is the 'Tatiana' themes: #9 and #17. Both are short piano solos, beautiful, dreamlike and with a shade of sadness and loneliness; like crystals tingling within the stillness of the night.

All the other soundtracks are great masterpieces. If you've played the game and as big a fan as I am, GET THIS CD NOW! I think this CD is quite rare and before it becomes a collector item and the price goes over the ceiling, BUY IT! You won't be disappointed.

Trust me on this."
