Eloise Laws "The Key" A must have CD
Brian Lee | Northern California | 05/09/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Eloise Laws is an artist that you can't listen to enough. Until now, we have enjoyed four albums of her soulful, smooth, and commanding vocals. After almost 18 years, she has recorded a fifth project entitled "The Key" on Scepterstein Records, and we find Eloise stronger than ever. Originally from Houston, Texas, Eloise comes from an extremely talented family that includes Sister Debra Laws, and Brothers Ronnie and Hubert Laws. Not only are they talented siblings, but they all lent a hand on this exceptional CD. Debra sings background vocals on the Title cut, Ronnie plays the soprano saxophone, and Hubert doubles as producer and musician. Highlights on this CD include every single cut. Eloise opens with "Last Days Of Summer", a smooth, elegant song that sets a tone for the wonderful selections to follow. Two duets, "Ecstasy" with Leonard Tucker and "You're Lovely" with Damion Willis are sensual ballads that keep your mind on just one thing. "Forever now" and "Baby You Lied" are songs Eloise recorded for ABC in 1977, both pick up the tempo, and are amazing, sounding better than the originals. Eloise showcases her writing talents on "The More Things Change". "False Faces" is "just" another stunning performance by Eloise. The title cut "The Key" is one of 3 selections on the CD written by Hubert Laws. And it's another masterful display of vocal control and delivery. "Love Is Feeling" brings the album to a close, and makes you want for more. Eleven cuts in all, on a CD that is long overdue. We can't possibly hear enough from Eloise Laws, and this sweet, sultry collection is a must have for anyone with a CD player. Eloise Laws is simply amazing. Let's hope we don't have to wait another 18 years for new material!..."
The Key...

"Personally, I was looking for the late 70's version of "Love comes Easy," and I was SEVERLY disappointed when I heard an updated version of the song on "The Key." Otherwise, a good effort! But, her original version of "Love comes Easy" was simply perfect...that's what I hope to get someday...Three stars!"
You cant improve on the original

"the reason i searched for this cd is because i have it in the original

vinyl L.p. and while i think the new version is just o.k. i cant help

but think why did ms. laws re-record this when the original was perfect?

the original is "the bomb" its smooth while her voice on this is shakie.

i would love to perchase the original in form of CD. and if the original

was re-released it would certainly sell out!."
