"Another one? Still a first-rate selection: 20 essential and irresistible rock 'n' roll cuts from 1956-1958, charting what Elvis Presley was all about when he conquered the world. For those who still don't know. Excellent mix and sound to boast. Should have been released at mid-price, though."
Good songs...not so good collection

"Based on the album title, choice of the songs, and the raucous photo on the cover, it is clear that a one-disc Rock-N-Roll collection from Elvis' 1950's recordings was intended. This CD gets about 3/4 of it right.
Let me say that i DO like nearly all of the songs on this collection. However, several are not exactly representative of Elvis' ROCKIN' songs. Songs like Don't Be Cruel, All Shook Up, Party, Wear My Ring, and I Got Stung were really more pop numbers. No real guitar solos, no Elvis screeching and hollaring, no Elvis getting down and dirty. They're great songs, but not really rock n roll.
There ARE however, several songs not included that COULD have been, which are MORE representative of Elvis the Rocker, than some songs on this collection: My Baby Left Me, Money Honey, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, and ummmm..... JAILHOUSE ROCK??? Those all come to mind as very representaive of his Rockin' 50's recordings.
Luckily, the bulk of this CD ARE true rockers, but they could have easily assembled a better collection. Do what i did. Get the Complete 50's Masters USED on amazon, then burn your own compilations on CD."
Great but incomplete

"Many of the songs and performances on this CD are legendary and established rock and roll as the dominant popular music form for decades to come. The problem I have with this collection is that it does not include any of Elvis' rock songs from the 60's and 70's. Elvis did not stop rocking when he was drafted! I would like to see a comprehensive Elvis Rock collection that includes some of the songs here, but also songs like "Burning Love," "Promised Land," "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" and others."
Does Elvis rock?

"Lots of good songs--however, the sound is not up to current standards. Heard better versions of almost everything."
