"Elvis could do no wrong artistically in the '50s, and here is another example. His first starring feature is a huge Hollywood Musical build around him! That's pretty amazing, considering that two years before he was probably ecstatic to have his first Ciountry chart hit.

His power and range is exemplified on all tracks (listen to the booming bass notes Country Blues-style "Lonesome Cowboy" and compare it with the soft crooning on the ballad takes of "Loving You").

The movie song selection/production numbers were excellent; the staging and cutting was effective, and it appears that alot of thought went into the integration of the tunes with the storyline: there are there are actually *four* variations of the theme song, two on the always cool "Party", and of course that blockbuster "Got Alot Of Livin' To Do!" (Interesting that Conrad Birdie sang a tune with the same title in another movie based on Elvis...I guess that's another review).

The extras are mostly from the original album "bonus" conuts - at that time they were'nt listed *as* bonus cuts and the fiedlity is so good, it's uncanny. I do not understand that reprocess technology.

Just a small philosophical afterthought: as great as this package was and is, it was a small step towards what can be considered Elvis' (somewhat willing?) step away from Rockin' Rebel grace. The comparison with "Blue Hawaii" is too much for the purists.

Some think the "real" Elvis vacated after "Mystery Train", some believe after "Elvis Is Back". At least, at this point in his career, he was still making Hollywood conform to *him*.

"I have now viewed 18 of the 33 ElVIS films. I still have 15 more to go. By far, I have enjoyed LOVING YOU most of all for its parallel to Elvis' life. It was an amazing experience to view the young and hopeful Elvis at the height of his popularity. The film was wonderful for true Elvis fans. I have this one at the top of my collection!"

HIS VERY FIRST GREAT SOUNDTRACK ALBUM

"This was the third Elvis album, and the first soundtrack one; this cd has an incredible collection of songs and every track demostrates how marvelous is his own style to sing; more great balalds like the number one hit LOVING YOU, TRUE LOVE, TELL ME WHY and IT'S SO STRANGE; excellent Rock'n'roll numbers like MEAN WOMAN BLUES, PARTY, HOT DOG and GOT A LOT O' LIVING TO DO; there are some thypical country songs like LONESOME COWBOY, the number one TEDDY BEAR and BLUEBERRY HILL. This album also contains an unreleased versions of the songs ONE NIGHT (OF SIN) and I BEG OF YOU; If you loves Rock, Pop and American music, YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS ONE!!!"
