Emm goes Irish

"This cd is comprised of covers of traditional Irish music and songs performed by Irish singers. I was not sure what to expect from this album but I bought it anyways based on Emm's always impressive work.
Songs of Love and Death is incredibly eclectic and moving. There are happier/pop-y songs like 'Deckchairs and Cigarettes', 'Nothing Ryhmed'. Then there are more rocking songs like 'Bau-Dachong', 'Forget Georgia' and 'Dearg Room'. Then there are the more ballad-y songs; 'Moorloagh Shore', 'Running Back', and 'Shining Light'.
The highlight of this album is Emm's version of 'Breathless'. It is nothing like the Coors. Emm slows it way down using piano, cello, and violin. It is incredible!!
This album is a great mix and very fun to listen to no matter the mood."
Emm Gryner Continues To Impress

"It continues to amaze me how radio continues to overlook - or perhaps underplay - the music of Emm Gryner. She is a superb writer, and unfortunately on this CD we do not get to experience any of her own music. But as Emm demonstrated on Girl Versions, she has a unique ability to cover other music in completely original ways. These might as well be Emm's songs for she has transformed each and every one of these Irish tunes. Every song is very well crafted - her rendition of Horslip's Dearg Doom being particularly noteable. I expect that some are obvious choices for commercial radio - Forget Georgia and Nowhere for instance. This album continues to demonstrate that Emm is a great musician and is a welcome addition to her catalogue."
