Picture your science teacher breaking out in the music scene
M. Oconnell | Connecticut | 10/14/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Emperor X never seems to stray far from its non-fictional lyrical heritage. Everything from the album title to small snippets of lyrical beauty are laced with every sort of sci-fi acknowledgement musically imaginable. Sure, its been done before, but its never worked as well as Emperor X's stab.

The caveat to this type of music is musicians tend to stray so far from real life, it makes their songs brilliant but unredeemable in human relations. Which is why everyone loves the Pina Colada song, and why The Flaming Lips get no radio play (at least in my area.) Luckily, unlike the Flaming Lips, Emperor X's periodical robot communication always trails a stanza or two away from real human organic emotion.

Strange breed, rangefinder.

I'm comatose.

Trust, doubt, breakaway.

We were never close.

The odyssey of lyrical choice eventually accrues into a bigger picture in the musical sense. It takes a few listens to, but it is largely rewarding, and always a unique trip into junior-year science references, geographical trivia, and high school crushes (in a non-whiny tolerable fashion!)

Definately give it a try."
Wow....they can not--shut, shut up

"when science smashes into music, very strange things happen. here we have 11 strange things all at once. keep on making strange music about the things you love. this cd makes me want to hear it again. and that is a good thing."
