"I think that this is Ennio's most underrated, and most beautiful score. It goes perfectly with the sombre and intense mood of this particular interpretation of Hamlet - one film that I think never received its just due. The Hamlet theme, there are two versions of this theme, is my favorite. It is played with a solo cello on the first variation accompanied by a string section and the second variation is played with a solo clarinet, again accompanied by strings. It is haunting, heartbreaking and moving music, interspersed with medieval like music that brings up visions of the medieval past. A fine score!"
