CD Reviews

Best Song From a 2001 Film!!!

"Okay, the Acadamy Award & Golden Globe Award voters didn't agree with me, but who are you going to believe: those guys, or me? LOLYes, I do believe that "May It Be" will be listened to long after the other nominees are forgotten, but do bear in mind that I am highly biased for all of Enya's work. For many, it may take several listens to completely appreciate. It has a certain mysticism to it, much as you would expect from a song composed for the LORD OF THE RINGS film. However, I don't think "May It Be", brilliant as it is, matches "Isobella" in beauty, healing quality, and enchantment. Both "Isobella" and "The First of Autumn" have been unavailable in the U.S. although both were on the Japanese pressing of "A Day Without Rain". "The First of Autumn" is the most energetic song of the three, and close to equalling the first two. While I do appreciate the thoughts of another reviewer who felt quite swept up in the sequence of the three, I personally feel the disc would've been better balanced with "The First of Autumn" between the more mystical and reflective songs, but that is hardly a criticism. This is definitely a must have disc for all who love Enya's music. It's Enya at her very best."
What a beautiful piece of music!

"While looking at all the extras on my 2-disc version of "Fellowship Of The Ring" I came across the video of Enya singing "May It Be". I was hooked by about the ten-second mark. The song instantly became a favorite of mine and I began looking for it on cd. I finally found the movie soundtrack and had the song in a format I could play in my truck. If you haven't yet seen it, the video is nothing short of fantastic! I would place this song alongside of other great movie music such as: "Moon River" and "My Heart Will Go On"."
May It Be is a breathtaking single.

"I was a bit dissapointed with Enyas A Day Without Rain release back when it came out. That album has since grown on me and today I find it to be a great CD even though the CD length was and still is a joke to me. May It Be is kind of like the darker sound that A Day Without Rain album lacked. I in no way am putting down the Rain album and I actually love that album today but May It Be, Isobella, and the First Of Autumn beat out just about every song on that album.May It Be is a gorgeous, sad song that brings back memories if smaointe from a decade ago. It would have beat out almost every other track on her latest release. The real treat on this single is Isobella. I reviewed both the U.S. and the Japanese versions of Enyas latest album A Day Without Rain. I gave the U.S. version a four and the Japanese a five. Isobella is a haunting, gorgeous hymn sung in Gaelic, the language I love hearing Enya sing in. Isobella doesn't sound quite like Smaointe, or Na Leatha Geal M'Oige as Kabir Ahamed proclaims. It is more similar to Hope Has A Place or La Sonadora. Isobella does not top Smaointe or Na Leatha but Isobella is a song that stands out on it's own and had it been included on A Day Without Rain, it would have propelled it to a five star. The First Of Autumn is a beautiful instrumental that brings up images of a cloudy evening with the red, and orange leaves falling to the ground. Isobella and The First Of Autumn should have been included. They could have made the album much longer and possibly over 40 minutes long. But at least this set of three songs is a good purchase. I say go and get this CD. The three songs on here are great and are like the punch that most of Enyas latest album lacks. This single is worth having just for Isobella."
