"Light spirited yet not waifish, Enzo Enzo's sound is humorous, yet still able to convey a wide range of emotions. Although it's difficult to categorize what genre they belong to, I would call this french jazz, different from American Jazz in a certain lightness of voice, and more traditionally french instrumentation.The blissful and breezy "L'amour est un alcool" is a jazzy bistro tune, while "Dans tes Bras" is a circuslike tune that brings to mind the theme song from PeeWee's Playhouse.Swinging from introspection to making fun of themselves, this group shows their talent, without pigeonholing themselves, nor boring the listeners.If you like this album, also check out the Lullaby Baxter Trio, "Even Cowgirls get the Blues" or "Ingenue by K.d.Lang, and anything by Leni Stern."

"This album by French chanteuse Enzo Enzo is truly a wonder. She manages to inherit the stylings of the great french chanson singers like Piaf and Frehel and still bring a new freshness and vitality to her sound. This is the kind of sophisticated popular music that defined the pre-rock'n roll era. The opening track "L'amour est un alcool" is sheer perfection. It sways with a gentle mediterranean feel. "Dans tes bras" brings out the accordion and is an up-tempo gem. It swirls around in the chaos of new-found love. All the tracks are, in fact, stand-outs. Her vocal delivery is a bit more toned down than her predecessors...gentler and less intense than Piaf, but she has mastered the dying art of interpreting songs. "Femme d'artist" is a great example of her ability to inhabit the songs that she sings (in waltz-time no less!) There are three live unlisted bonus tracks including Piaf's "Pauvre Jean"...as if the rest of the cd didn't make it worthwhile!"
