Synopsis
Product Description Tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander made his first CD as a bandleader at the age of 25. That was 17 years ago and, oddly enough, you can still sometimes see Alexander described as an "up-and-coming" jazz saxophonist. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth he's fully developed into one of the finest bebop saxophonists in the world and the proof is in this session. With Harold Mabern, Nat Reeves and Joe Farnsworth providing the rhythmic spark, Eric presents an imaginative program recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. Similarly Requested CDs |
CD ReviewsHard to believe...... D. Alder | Michigan | 01/10/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "By far one of the finest jazz saxophonists around today, Alexander once again mixes it up on another release. Varied tempos, great supporting crew, and Rudy Van Gelder behind the scene all make for a terrific listening experience. "Revival" and "Too late fall back" are the burners on this disc, while "Love wise" and "Yasashiku" show the mellow, clean tone Alexander is capable of. The disc is a great assortment of solid performances. Eric is both a throwback to the old Blue-Note players but keeps it sounding fresh. He is one of several great talents today that every jazz fan should have in their music collection. A real treat to listen to!" Another fine release R. Bader | San Francisco | 01/27/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "Another fine release from Eric Alexander. A bit more on the mellow side compared to some of his other recordings, although the title track is uptempo. Eric chooses his material wisely and I can't get enough of his finely crafted solos. I just wish he would come out to the left coast more often - i missed him when he was at Yoshi's recently." The Jazz Circle will be Unbroken! S. Mar | Taipei, Taiwan | 02/14/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "In my opinion, the three most important and influential hard bop, post bop saxophonists out today are Eric Alexander, Chris Potter, and James Carter. Of these fine artists, Eric Alexander is perhaps the most accessible, while still maintaining consistently high standards. Nice to see his old stalwart Harold Mabern on keyboards, with Joe Farnsworth on drums. A number of old chestnuts - quite reserved like fine wine; "edge less" with a timeless quality."
