"I've seen Mr. Johnson three times live and this disc absolutely captures Eric at his very best.
Recorded in 1988 between the Ah Via Musicom and Venus Isle discs, his playing is just masterful, vibrant and inspirational.
On this disc he shows why he's one of the world's best guitarists and he performs his butt off in his hometown.
It's one of the best live discs I've heard in a long time.
It captures the essence of Austin's native son."
As Great as you would expect!

"This is (I think) Eric's second appearance on Austin City Limits,(he has been featured 4 times). This is the performance chosen by Eric himself to be released, he felt that he never played better than at this show. Hey, who am I to argue? This is some sick, sick, GREAT playing to be sure. "Cliffs of Dover" and "Desert Rose" are positively inspired and incendiary. A few sniggles, "Trademark" is NOT on this or the DVD, don't know why. And Eric has about as much stage presence as Allan Greenspan. Those are the only possible negatives, this is an unbelievable live performance and anyone who wants to hear truly great guitar needs to own this. This really is essential!"

"This album is a time machine and it's well worth the trip. While the sound quality on some of the vocals is poor the quality of EJ's guitar work is without reproach. These are songs with which you are well acquainted but what makes this album a must-have is EJ's ability to provide studio-quality sound in his live performance...if you didn't know better you'd say he's playing air guitar to a studio track. It's a credit to his abilities as a musician and as a composer. Without question, though, you'll fall in love with his forays into Hendrix...nobody's covered Are You Experienced the way he's done it here. GET THIS ALBUM and enjoy!"

"I've been an EJ fan for almost 15yrs.. I've been waiting or more like hoping for a live release of at least half of the songs on this cd. I hope EJ is proud of what he's done and is willing to release more live material from the musicom and venus isle era. Don't be overly critical Eric, just release it! This is my favorite release from EJ since venus isle. This playing sounds soo good live, you'll also wonder why it took so long to come out. I think the production/recording quality might seem lacking at times and seems mostly noticeable on the few songs he sings, but overall sit back and turn it up! looking forward to the next live release. thanks Eric."

"Totally amazing live DVD. I've watched this DVD probably 20 times and I still love it. I started off just liking the songs that I knew "Cliffs of Dover, Righteous, Desert Rose" but then I found that his old school stuff is great too. This DVD is worth buying just for the songs Emerald Eyes and Western Flyer. Plus you know that a guy is a stud when he can pull off wearing a band uniform top on stage. Don't hesitate, buy this now!!"
