CD ReviewsLet's get that cardio going! Westley | Stuck in my head | 04/19/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Eric Prydz is one of those generic European dance artists who has one huge hit that sweeps the continent. He's similar to Robert Miles -- you win a prize if you can remember Robert's hit "Children." Eric is unlikely to have another hit; however, "Call on Me" is damn catchy and deserves attention. The song is a propulsive bit of electro built around a sample from the Steve Winwood hit "Valerie" (a #9 hit in 1987); specifically, the "call on me" part is swiped -- the full line is " Valerie, call on me/ Call on me, Valerie/ Come and see me/ I'm the same boy I used to be." Ah, now you probably remember the line. It's a somewhat odd sample, but it works rather brilliantly. The remixes are all decent but don't add too much to the song. The beat ultimately sounds quite a bit like cheesy workout music, which is appropriate given the sexy video depicting an aerobics class. Overall, this single is a very good but rather disposable dance song. Enjoy it while it's fresh because in the fall it will smell a bit rancid. " Hot, funky fun from Eric Prydz and Co. Kali | United Kingdom | 02/05/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "You just have to love this song even when you want to hate it! It is so wonderfully cheesy with its easy to learn lyrics; in fact the whole song consists of the following words sung over and over again in conjunction with a brilliant beat that you just can't resist. call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on meeeee, I'm the same boy I used to be I'm the same boy I used to be call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on me, call on me call on meeeee, I'm the same boy I used to be The video reminds me of the bygone days of the late 1980s, early 1990s when everyone was into body beautiful in a BIG way. Not much difference really from today in fact but this video is somewhat more "explicit" in its moves that the yesteryear "booty beautiful" videos and songs. However you just can't help liking this song despite the fact it has all the intelligence of a one cell amoeba and won't ever do anything for world peace other than getting everyone in the grove! A funky, groovy song with its own kind of charm that I think will win over even most people though they will probably never admit to it! " FIVE STARS FOR ONE OF THE BEST DANCE SONGS EVER! James | USA | 09/16/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I am not kidding! This song is AMAZING, yet so simple. It just says "Call On Me.....Call Me" and "I'm the same boy I used to be" over again, but something about it is dynamite!
This song is sexy and the video is also sexy. Plus the single is off the charts!! Many of the remixes, if not all of them are UNBELIEVABLE. Especially Eric Prydz vs Retarded Funk Mix and the JJ Stockholm mix. UNREAL! I also agree with another review...Cabin Crew is awesome, and so is Axwell, and Stonebridge (Put Em High) but Eric Prydz restarted my love for Eurodance once again. PLEASE GET THIS! You will love it!" |
