"The Bach concerto for two violins in D minor may be one of the finest recordings of this piece ever made. The Vivaldi concerto for two violins in D minor is a wonderful compliment to it, and equally adept. Both are published here for the first time.



According to Leon Pommers, Morini (nee Morgenstern) regarded her Stradivarius "as a human being able to adapt itself to whomever played it." The violin, stolen shortly before her death and lost to this day, comes alive here for all those wise enough to want to hear it.



Morini's sound is sweet, passionate, and beyond compare.

Is this really from 1962?

"This is an incredible cd. The recording dates are 1962 and 1967, but you really can't tell from the performance. It may as well have been 1920. The playing is definitely in the pre-war style. I have listened to Morini's other recording of Vivaldi from much earlier and the approach is similar. If you listen to Milstein before the war and Milstein in the 1960s his approach to Vivaldi changed drastically. Her interpretation of Vivaldi and the other baroque composers on this cd did not.

I really liked it, though, since I really like that style of playing. Morini plays very beautifully and with great feeling. All of the pieces on the cd were great. The sound quality was very, very fine although this was recorded from a live concert. You can't really tell.

So you can sit back with a cup of turkish coffee and let this cd take you back in time to the pre-war years. I would highly recommend the Biddulph recording where Morini also interprets Vivaldi."
